How You Most Effectively Engage Your Team – 4 Principles from Mark Hood

My friend and colleague Mark Hood, CEO at Spine Team Texas, recently shared some excellent insights with me on how he most effectively engages his team. He writes:

Here are four principles I have used throughout my career to motivate and engage my team.

  1. ACCESSIBILITY: Make sure your team can reach you easily. For example, return their phone call promptly and avoid interruptions during scheduled meetings.
  2. CONSISTENCY: Be the same person every day. We have all encountered those who have unpredictable temperaments. This can create confusion and distrust among your team.
  3. OPENNESS: Encourage team members to express their ideas even if they are different from yours. Dialogue among team members can be very productive when ideas flow freely.
  4. HUMOR: Don’t take yourself too seriously. Humor can diffuse tension or resentment.

Four absolutely excellent principles that are highly applicable to every leader and every team and organization! Thank you Mark for sharing your wisdom and perspectives.
