I am currently studying—note that I did not say that I am simply reading—an excellent book titled Essentialism: The Disciplined Pursuit of Less. The author is Greg McKeown. Regardless of your level of leadership and personal and professional success, you can learn and benefit from this book!
From day to day, in fact more often than that, every leader, and every person regardless of their level of success, needs to carefully examine these crucial questions:
- Am I living by intentional design and not by default?
- Am I deliberately and consistently making choices to focus on the vital few as opposed to the trivial many?
- Am I focused on and executing at the highest possible point of my contribution?
- Am I majoring in minor activities?
McKeown writes:
“The way of the Essentialist is the relentless pursuit of less but better.”
“Essentialism is not about how to get more things done; it’s about how to get the right things done.”
“It is about making the wisest possible investment of your time and energy in order to operate at the highest point of contribution by doing only what is essential.”
