Don’t Let It Cost You Your Peace

Awhile back I liked and shared a post on LinkedIn that contained this quote: “If it costs you your peace it’s too expensive.” I don’t know where it originated, but I like it. If you really stop to think about it, there is a lot of wisdom in that statement.

I suppose it is one of those sayings that can mean different things to different people, depending on their perspective. For me, I take it to mean that if something you choose to do or say or spend your time or money on unsettles you and disrupts your peace of mind, it’s not worth it.

I’m not saying you shouldn’t do hard things or take risks or set challenging goals, but whatever you do, you must ensure it aligns with your deepest values and beliefs. We’ve all had experiences and made decisions that have made us uncomfortable. What was the root of that discomfort? In some cases, it was the loss of our peace of mind.

When our choices, words, actions or inactions unsettle us, cause us anxiety, and rob us of our peace of mind, we must recognize the cost. Sometimes intentions and endeavors might seem really good, but still leave us unsettled. So are they worth it? That’s for each of us to decide for ourselves.

Whatever you do, don’t forget the unmatchable value of your own wellbeing and peace of mind!
