Many leaders continually endeavor to “force-fit” their definitions of personal and professional success on the people who follow them and the organizations they lead. Inevitably, every such leader fails!

These leaders fail to acknowledge, understand, and properly leverage the powerful, inevitable, and everlasting truth regarding success.

Author Kristin Kaufman addresses this critically important subject in her recent book titled, Is This Seat Taken? It’s Never Too Late to Find the Right Seat. Here are some excellent quotes from the book:

“Success is individual.”

“Success is not stagnant. It evolves and changes shape and scope as we evolve. Our definitions of success and what is important to us will invariably change as we move through life.”

“As unique as we are, so are the definitions of success.”

“Success comes from within. It is not awarded from the outside.”

Benchmarks for success are “not defined by corporate America, the expectations of society, by money, power, affluence, or influence.”

Each and every person on the planet uniquely defines success for themselves. Wise leaders not only understand this critical truth, they appropriately apply and leverage this truth for the benefit of all!

Ultimately, by helping and supporting followers as they define, redefine, and live their definition of success, everyone wins—including the individual, the organization, and the leader!

Even if it results in some people leaving your organization, help your followers define their success.
