Leaders: Are You Teaching This Critical Reality?
Excellent leaders know that if they influence and change the perceptions of those they lead, they will change the reality of those they lead.
Excellent leaders clearly understand that perception is reality! Not only do they understand that perception is reality, they also clearly understand that they can influence and change the perception of those they lead. That, my friends, is a very powerful reality!
Excellent leaders understand that it is not necessarily their perceptions that are most important, but the perceptions, which are the reality, of those they lead.
One of the most important jobs of a leader is to help people eliminate or change much of the unnecessary and nonproductive mental baggage they carry around on a daily basis.
In the book titled, Half-Full: Your Perception Becomes Your Reality!, author John J. Murphy does an excellent job of explaining the importance of this concept:
“We have all heard, ‘I will believe it when I see it.’ Try turning this around: We see it when we believe it. We experience it when we live it in the now. We call to our existence exactly what we are thinking and feeling and believing in the moment.”
This is so very true in our personal lives, our professional lives, and our organizational lives! Murphy continues,
“Contemplate this: What am I calling into my life right now? What conscious and subconscious programs am I running on right now? What mental and emotional baggage am I clinging to? Is my life half-empty, or half-full? More importantly, what is even ‘in the glass’ and how long have I been holding onto it? What if I choose to find and embrace the silver linings, the life lessons in disguise?”
As a leader, are you focused on understanding and improving the perceptions of those you lead? Within your organization, and every organization in the world, PERCEPTION IS REALITY!
“We see it when we believe it.”
Remember, we become what we think about.
