Essentialism (from book cover)

I am currently studying—note that I did not say that I am simply reading—an excellent book titled Essentialism: The Disciplined Pursuit of Less. The author is Greg McKeown. Regardless of your level of leadership and personal and professional success, you can learn and benefit from this book!

From day to day, in fact more often than that, every leader, and every person regardless of their level of success, needs to carefully examine these crucial questions:

  • Am I living by intentional design and not by default?
  • Am I deliberately and consistently making choices to focus on the vital few as opposed to the trivial many?
  • Am I focused on and executing at the highest possible point of my contribution?
  • Am I majoring in minor activities?

McKeown writes:

“The way of the Essentialist is the relentless pursuit of less but better.”

“Essentialism is not about how to get more things done; it’s about how to get the right things done.”

“It is about making the wisest possible investment of your time and energy in order to operate at the highest point of contribution by doing only what is essential.”

Over the next several weeks, this column will unpack some of the crucial leadership and life lessons addressed in this excellent book. Buy the book and join us. If you are serious, you will not regret your decision to become engaged.

Serious study and application of the concepts and wisdom contained in this book cannot help but help you, and every other leader in the world! Even better, share a copy of the book with every member of your team and use it as a study guide for personal, professional, and organizational improvement!
