Jon Gordon, a successful leadership author, thought leader, and speaker, recently visited West Point Military Academy to speak and to interact with cadets, coaches, and the military brass.

Following his visit, Jon wrote an article titled 9 Leadership Lessons from my Visit to West Point. He explains that although he was there to teach, he ended up learning far more than he taught. After a full day immersed in the leadership-centric culture of West Point, Jon came away with 9 key leadership lessons, which he describes in-depth in his article. I encourage you to read the full article for more detail, but the 9 leadership lessons are as follows:

  1. It’s a Leadership Factory
  2. Leadership can be Developed
  3. Leadership and Service is a Choice
  4. Leadership is Both Macro and Micro
  5. Coaching is Leadership
  6. Vision is Powerful
  7. Failure is Necessary
  8. You Don’t Have to be in the Military to be a Servant Leader
  9. Feeling is More Powerful than Hearing

I encourage you to read the full article. There are excellent reminders for your own leadership improvement, as well as for those team members you lead and coach.
