Do you have a high-definition mental blueprint of what you consider to be ultimate success for your life? Personal success? Professional success? Even organizational success?
In his book titled The Little Book of Talent, Daniel Coyle presents 52 tips for improving the skills you select that will lead to your vision and your definition of greater success.
Tip number 2 is spending at least 15 minutes a day engraving a selected skill on your brain. Coyle calls this the engraving method.
“Basically [you] watch the skill being performed, closely and with great intensity, over and over, until [you] build a high-definition mental blueprint.”
Coyle presents several examples of people in diverse fields and professions who experience rapid improvement using this particular method. It has been my experience that all highly successful people use this method in one way or another.
“The key to effective engraving is to create an intense connection: to watch and listen so closely that you can imagine the feeling of performing the skill.”
Purposefully and carefully select a crucial skill that will have a high impact in moving you toward your vision and your definition of greater success. Then, spend at least 15 minutes a day engraving that skill on your brain. The results will be dramatic and amazing.
