Sandy Morford, CEO of Los Angeles-based Renovo Solutions, understands the significant challenges and opportunities of leading an organization through difficulty.

As a small start-up company several years ago, Renovo Solutions was faced with a frivolous lawsuit by a much larger competitor. The intent was pretty clear: shut down Renovo through financial hardship. Morford and his leadership team were faced with a seemingly impossible situation—whether they fought the lawsuit or agreed to a settlement, they would endure significant financial strain.

Morford is a man who leads with passion and enthusiasm. “Bottom line, I get excited about what I do. I get excited when we have success, and I remain excited even when we have losses, because I try to learn from those losses and do better next time.” True to form, in the face of this adversity Morford kept his enthusiasm and chose to see this challenge and financial loss as a unique opportunity for his organization.

He, along with his partners at Renovo, persevered despite the financial strain, tightening their belts for a while, but pressing on one step at a time. He knew that if they could overcome this one challenge, they would emerge stronger, more unified, and with an even greater resolve to succeed. It was a hard couple of years, but Morford’s determination and passion paid off. When the dust cleared, Renovo Solutions had doubled in size and was a strong and viable business.

Morford defines inspirational leadership as “the ability to inspire other individuals to perform at their highest level.” Through his experience, passion, and enthusiasm, he was able to do just that. He rallied his team and inspired them to perform at their highest level even in the midst of adversity. Today, Renovo Solutions is a thriving organization, made stronger by that adversity instead of weaker.

How about you, have you led your organization through difficulty? How do you inspire your team to persevere and to perform at their highest level?
