We tend to put a much higher premium on action than we do thought. Though we’ve often heard the adage, “It’s the thought that counts,” we all know that just thinking about something isn’t the same as doing it. Even people who ‘get paid to think’ have to communicate those thoughts so that someone can act upon them. Without action, thoughts seem pretty useless.
However, your thoughts have more influence on your life than you might think. Yes, without action your thoughts may not be worth much, but in reality, it doesn’t take much for your thoughts to become action.
The very wise Mahatma Gandhi once said,
“Keep your thoughts positive because your thoughts become your words. Keep your words positive because your words become your behavior. Keep your behavior positive because your behavior becomes your habits. Keep your habits positive because your habits become your values. Keep your values positive because your values become your destiny.”
Your thoughts become words… behavior… habits… values… destiny. If you really take some time to ponder that, you’ll realize how very true it is. Inevitably, we each become what we think about.
I know from personal experience that this is true. Each word I speak springs from the thoughts and attitudes inside me. And each word I speak influences what I do. What I do soon becomes habit, and my habits represent my values, which dictate my life and destiny.
When you think about it in that context, you realize that thoughts are extremely influential. So take Gandhi’s advice, and keep your thoughts positive!
