In a recent article on Inc.com, author Les McKeown shared “The Most Important Leadership Skill You’ll Ever Learn.” So what is this critical skill? It’s a skill that lays the foundation for consistently good decision-making: pattern recognition.

According to McKeown,

“What differentiates serially-good-deciders from the rest of us is pattern recognition. This is the ability to see the generic and lasting patterns that underpin localized and ephemeral data, and which form the unseen framework around which lasting success is built.”

Think about it. If you can develop the ability to recognize and analyze patterns that lead to success and patterns that lead to failure, you’re virtually guaranteed to make better decisions on a consistent basis!

The good news is that pattern recognition is a leadership skill that can be learned and refined, and McKeown suggests several sources where aspiring leaders can find help doing just that. (To read McKeown’s full article, please click here).

How about you, what patterns have you recognized that have helped you make better leadership decisions?
