Effective engagement builds trust, and trust dramatically improves and maintains effective engagement.

It is impossible to build and maintain effective, long-term trust without engagement. It is also impossible to build and maintain effective, long-term engagement without trust.

As a leader, what did you do yesterday to improve engagement and trust? What will you do today to improve engagement and trust? Specifically, what do you do, and what will you do, each and every day, to build and improve engagement and trust?

These are not only excellent questions, they are some of the most important questions you can ask yourself, your direct reports and your team members. You should expect and accept nothing less than your team proactively and continuously improving engagement and trust.

Serious and thoughtful discussion of these questions with your direct reports and/or your team is probably one of the most important things you could ever do as a leader. As a leader, your job is to create an excellent culture. Nothing is more important to culture than engagement and trust!
