The authors very effectively explain and use the analogy of “the domino effect” to describe the critical importance of carefully identifying and then focusing on the one most important thing, at any specific time, in order to maximize success. This is true whether in leadership or in any other area of our lives and career.
“Every day [highly successful people] line up their priorities anew, find the lead domino, and whack away at it until it falls.”
The authors then address the question: “Why does this work?” and offer their answer:
“Because extraordinary success is sequential, not simultaneous. You do the right thing, and then you do the next right thing. Over time it adds up, and the geometric potential of success is unleashed.”
Like the sequential falling of 1,000, 10,000, 100,000 or more dominos, the right choices, The ONE Thing, the most critical sequential decisions, actions and accomplishments will literally “run the table” in terms of accomplishing what is most important in your life, leadership and success.
Like dominos, each toppled by the one before it, your obstacles will inevitably and sequentially fall, one by one, if properly addressed sequentially, not simultaneously.
