Leadership Lessons from Abigail Adams

Abigail Adams was the wife of the second President of the United States of America, John Adams. To this day, she remains one of the most influential women in American history.

Like other women of her time, Abigail Adams lacked formal education. However, she possessed great intelligence and wisdom. She had a serious interest in philosophy, the classics, government and law. As First Lady, she pursued an active role in politics and policy, serving as her husband’s unofficial political advisor. Her contribution as a patriot and First Lady remains valuable and relevant.

Abigail Adams is credited with having said: “Great necessities call forth great leaders.”

If there was ever a time when the world has been presented with “great necessities,” it is now! It is, and will continue to be very interesting to observe and learn from those leaders who make great and lasting contributions during this turbulent time by ‘stepping up to the plate’ and ‘answering the call’ of great necessities.

Are you, or will you be one of those leaders who ‘step up to the plate’ and ‘answer the current call’ of great necessities? You are a leader. Every one of us is a leader in many different areas of our lives.  Regardless of your title, you are a leader at work, within your company and within your industry.

“Great necessities call forth great leaders.” Now is your time of great opportunity. Now is your time to ‘step up to the plate’ and ‘answer the call’ of great necessities.

Don’t fall into the inviting trap of focusing, as most people do, on all of the negatives, problems and obstacles within your industry. Focus on the opportunities! There are more opportunities than ever before. The great necessities and opportunities are virtually limitless.

“Great necessities call forth great leaders.” Step up, answer the call, be an inspirational leader and make some great things happen!

Why not you? Why not now?
