Best University-Based Executive Education Programs for You

Many successful healthcare leaders enroll in university-based executive education programs over the course of their career. These programs provide an excellent opportunity to refresh, stimulate a career, enhance leadership skills, and build important personal and professional networks within and outside of healthcare.

In a recent post on his blog “Great Leadership,” Dan McCarthy wrote a brief article titled: The Top Global Open Enrollment Executive Education Providers 2010.

Dan cross-referenced the Financial Times 2010 Best Open Enrollment Executive Education programs with the Business Week Best Open Enrollment Executive Education programs 2010.

McCarthy wrote, “Keep in mind that these are the best non-credit executive education programs, not the best business schools for an MBA. Also, these rankings are as much about brand name recognition than they are any kind of analysis or participant feedback. The rankings are based on surveys filled out by a single point of contact for executive development (I filled one out this summer). I’m sure there are plenty of lesser-known schools that are just as good. However, it’s a good place to start.

According to Dan McCarthy, the 15 schools that appear in the top 20 on both lists are as follows:

1. Harvard University

2. INSEAD

3. Stanford University

4. IMD

5. Center for Creative Leadership

6. London Business School

7. University of Pennsylvania (Wharton)

8. IESE Business School

9. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Sloan)

10. Columbia University

11. Northwestern University (Kellogg)

12. IE Business School

13. University of Chicago (Booth)

14. University of Virginia (Darden)

15. Thunderbird School of Global Management

There are hundreds of university-based programs within the United States and around the world, all competing for enrollees and claiming to be excellent. If you are a healthcare executive considering a one-to-four week university-based executive education program, this listing provides an excellent and credible start in researching and selecting the program that is right and best for you.
