You… On A Mission

By Dan Nielsen

January 5, 2010

You have heard it said…. “She is a woman on a mission!”  “He is a man on a mission!”  In most cases, this comment is a high compliment regarding someone who is absolutely determined and highly focused on a clear, precise, important and measurable mission.

What do important colleagues, friends and family say and think about you?  Are you a woman on a mission in 2010?  Are you a man on a mission in 2010?

Just exactly what is your mission for 2010?  In 30 seconds or less please… exactly and precisely, what is your mission for 2010 and beyond?

If you are not totally committed to a well thought out, precise, succinct and easily articulated personal and professional mission for 2010, you just discovered your first and highest priority for 2010.  If you care about your personal and professional success… your contributions and the value you create and deliver to others… you must (yes… you must) write (yes… you must write), a clear, precise, concise, measurable mission to which you are completely dedicated.

Think of it as the overwhelming purpose, value and legacy of your life.  It is that important!

No clear, precise mission?  Without a mission, you have little to no chance of any substantial success in 2010 and beyond.  Without a clear and definitive mission, how can you even begin to measure personal or professional success or failure?  How can you focus on, and achieve success when you have not precisely predetermined what success is for you?

As in an effective elevator speech, you should be able to clearly express your mission in 30 seconds or less.  If you can’t express it in 30 seconds or less, you need more thinking, clarity and focus.  If you can’t express your mission in 30 seconds or less, stop everything you are doing and write the words right now.  Nothing else is more important for you, your family, your company, your colleagues, your contributions and your ultimate success.  If you don’t have such a mission… create it now!

All else is secondary.  Nothing is more important than your personal and professional mission.  There is no better time to write or update your mission than right now!

Be a man or woman on a mission.  Be known as a woman or a man on a mission.  This is the first and most important key to your ultimate success in 2010 and beyond!
