Your Choice, Your Responsibility

My friend and colleague Steve Lawler recently shared the following quote by novelist Chuck Palahniuk:

Find joy in everything you choose to do. Every job, relationship, home… it’s your responsibility to love it, or change it.

This quote really resonated with me. I have long said, “If it’s to be, it’s up to me!” and I think this quote exactly reflects that philosophy.

Situations, circumstances, and surroundings change all the time. Jobs, relationships, and even the home you live in are not static things that you will always be pleased with. But as Chuck Palahniuk stated, “it’s your responsibility to love it, or change it.”

YOU and only you get to choose your attitude and your response to what life throws at you. YOU have the responsibility to adjust your attitude or adjust your circumstances. And YOU can choose to try to find joy in everything you do.

As one of my colleagues and close friends frequently tells her young daughter when she starts to complain about how her little sister is bugging her: “Either change the situation, remove yourself from the situation, or stop complaining!

It’s never too early to realize that YOU are responsible for your attitude and response in life. It’s your choice, your responsibility. So choose to find joy!
