A recent article by Vartika Kashyap featured on Linkedin explores the schedules of highly successful people. Kashyap introduces her topic by pointing out that there are many examples of successful people, and we should actively study these individuals and use what they have learned to push us to greater success.

Kashyap then lists 6 tips and perspectives for scheduling for success:

  1. “Planning the day, everyday!”– We have continually discussed the importance of not letting distractions overwhelm your day. When you go in with a plan, you are much more likely to be productive. This doesn’t mean that you will never deviate from your schedule, but it does give you a leg up on those days when unexpected tasks arise.
  2. “Never say never, ever.”– There is a wonderful and inspirational quote by Eleanor Roosevelt: “You must do the things you think you cannot do.”  Success typically does not come easy. It is a constant pursuit and you will have failures along the way. You must learn to keep pressing on to your goals and never give in to defeat!
  3. “Prioritization before organization, any day.”– Effectiveness before efficiency. Prioritization is necessary to make sure you complete the tasks that need to be completed. A full schedule doesn’t in itself mandate a productive day. Be sure to plan your day effectively for success.
  4. “We’re in this together.”– Acknowledge the benefit of teamwork. Each aspect of my organization is made possible by the work of my team, and the same is true in almost every organization. Every person has an essential role, and the success of the team is dependent upon the success of the individual.
  5. “Have a system in place for everything.”– A frequent topic among leaders I have interviewed is the importance of balance in your life. That balance is different for everyone, and depends on what you have established as your focus in life. My own systems vary from those of my team, but each of us has implemented a system that works for us.
  6. “Importance of staying healthy.”– I could probably write a book on this topic, and might do just that! I have always valued my health, and as I increase in years, I continue to devote a lot of time to staying healthy. I try to eat well and keep moving as much as possible. Much of the work I do, I do while riding a recumbent bike or while walking. Voice-to-text has been a valuable asset for me as I continue to work and communicate with my team while keeping my body in shape. Bottom line: make your health a priority, because it will impact all you do!

Without a doubt, we all desire to be more effective and productive in our day-to-day lives, and to ultimately achieve greater success. Learn from the most successful people in the world, and apply the tips above as you begin to align your own schedule with your priorities to achieve greater success!
