Sometimes You Win, Sometimes You Learn

What is the focus of your learning? Think about it carefully. As a human being and as a leader, what is the focus of your learning?

In chapter 5 of his recently published book titled Sometimes You Win – Sometimes You Learn, John Maxwell writes, “The desire to improve themselves is the DNA of all successful people.” This certainly includes all successful leaders.

The focus of your learning should be improvement! Maxwell writes, “Improving yourself is the first step to improving everything else.”

Just as you can’t make an impact if you never lived, you can’t make additional positive impacts if you never improve. It is absolutely true that, “Improving yourself is the first step to improving everything else.”

In the same chapter Maxwell provides additional critically important wisdom when he writes, “The highest reward for our toil is not what we get for it but what we become by it. The most important question is not, ‘What am I getting?’ but ‘What am I becoming?’”

Imagine the astounding personal, professional, and organizational impact if more people understood and applied this great wisdom in their lives! The result would literally and drastically change lives and the world!

Authors Warren Bennis and Burt Nanus wrote, “It is the capacity to develop and improve themselves that distinguishes leaders from followers.”

What is the focus of your learning? How can you improve that focus? How can you better apply and leverage the focus of your learning?
