Go Small

We are in a series discussing and learning from the best-selling book, The ONE Thing: The Surprisingly Simple Truth Behind Extraordinary Results, written by Gary Keller and Jay Papasan. For your convenience, all articles in this series can be found by clicking here.

Early in the book the authors describe the “absolute” best strategy for succeeding and achieving what you most want. Their advice: GO SMALL.

“Going small is ignoring all the things you could do and doing what you should do.”

This advice sounds logical – and simple – like “common sense.”  However, it is far from simple, in fact, it is very difficult. Very few leaders have the wisdom and discipline to consistently “GO SMALL.”

The authors continue: “It’s recognizing that not all things matter equally, and finding the things that matter most. It’s a tighter way to connect what you do with what you want.”

Stop and think about that!  “A tighter way to connect what you do with what you want.” What else could be a higher priority, more important or more impactful in your life and leadership?

And here is the closer – the summary statement of this important paragraph, where reality and the rubber hits the road:

“It’s realizing that extraordinary results are directly determined by how narrow you make your focus.”

Narrow your focus. As a leader, narrow your team’s focus. GO SMALL… and achieve that which is most important!
