Transferring Concepts and Vision

When the people you lead come to any of your meetings, they have expectations.  They expect to leave each of your meetings with specific and relevant information, direction and inspiration regarding accomplishing the mission and goals of your team and their organization.

And so it is with any presentation, email or other communication from their leader.  They expect and deserve specific and relevant information, direction and inspiration regarding accomplishing the mission and goals of their team and their organization.

You would not want people on your team who do not have these expectations.

So how are you, the leader, doing?

In his latest book titled Little Book of Leadership, Jeffrey Gitomer writes the following:

“A transferable concept should be your goal in every meeting you conduct, in every e-mail you send, in every paragraph you write, and in every “by example” action that you take.

A transferable concept is defined as follows: each member of your team thinks or says to themselves as you’re delivering your message and presenting new ideas: I get it.  I agree with it.  I think I can do it.  I’m willing to try it.”

It is your job, as a leader, to transfer your vision, and the vision of your organization into purposeful action and measurable desired results.  In fact, as a leader, this is basically your one and only job. TRANSFER VISION INTO REALITY!

If transferring vision and concepts is your most important responsibility, how are you doing?

Ask your subordinates, your peers, your superiors, your team.  For sure, ask your customers!  If you are leading with truth, transparency and integrity, each of these groups of people will honestly share what you are doing well… and each will share valuable suggestions for your consideration and improvement.

Transferring vision and concepts into measurable, desired reality.  This is the highest calling and greatest characteristic and talent of an outstanding leader!

How are you doing?  Ask, listen and learn from your subordinates, peers, supervisors, team and customers.  They know… and they will tell you with honesty and compassion.

 

It is worth repeating.  Transferring vision and concepts into measurable, desired reality is the highest calling and greatest characteristic and talent of an outstanding leader!
